Lindenwood'swomen volleyball wraps up their 2023-24 regular season as they head down to Cape Girardeau, Mo. to take on the Redhawks of Southeast Missouri State. The Lions have clinched a spot in the OVC Championships regardless of the outcomes for this week.
Due to the Ohio Valley Conference Championships starting on Monday, Nov. 20, all matches for the OVC this week will be played on Wednesday, Nov. 15 and Thursday, Nov. 16. The location of the Championships will be determined between Eastern Illinois and SEMO.
Lindenwood lost their final two home matches of the season last weekend against former GLVC rival Southern Indiana. Both matches went four sets at Hyland Arena. Amber Schade was also celebrated during senior night on Thursday.
SEMO also lost two matches last weekend at Tennessee Tech. Those losses stopped the Redhawks who were in the middle of winning nine of their past 10 matches, with their only loss coming against current #1 seed Eastern Illinois.
The Lions were picked to finish seventh this season in the OVC during the preseason voting. Southeast Missouri State was picked to win the conference in the preseason and are currently in second place behind EIU by one match.
Weekend Recap
Lindenwoodbattled tough and put up some good numbers last weekend against Southern Indiana, but the Screaming Eagles were too much winning both matches by a final score of 3-1.
Nyah Wilsonwas the leader for the Lions on Thursday picking up her 12th double-double of the season after posting 13 kills and 16 digs. She also contributed two of the Lions five service aces in the match.
Rebecca JankeandAnna Kraemerboth provided a lift to the offense picking up 12 kills each. Janke led the way with an efficient .400 hitting percentage. She also added four blocks including three solo.
Lindenwood hurt themselves during Thursday's matchwith 12 serving errors and 23 attack errors. USI only had five blocks the entire evening while Lindenwood posted 10. The Lions were also forced into eight reception errors. LU's largest set loss was by just four points.
As a team, Lindenwood hit around their season average with a .196. They had a total of 56 kills, same as Southern Indiana. Eight different Lions posted a kill including graduating seniorAmber Schade(one kill).
Addy McAleerwas the Lions' best offensive threat in Friday's match posting 20 kills, her most in 11 matches. Not only did she have the most kills out of anyone on the team, she did it at an efficient pace posting a .288 hitting percentage.
The Lions struggled to keep their service errors in check after posting 13 of them in the loss to Southern Indiana. LU lost three sets on Friday evening by a combined nine points. They also had 21 attack errors to just 15 by USI.
Lindenwood hit over their season average on Friday with a .205 hitting percentage. Wilson had another big night for the Lions picking up her 13th double-double of the season with 13 kills and 17 digs.
OVC Top Ten
Addy McAleer is welcomed back into the top ten after posting 20 kills in her last match. She now has the ninth best kills per set average with an average of 2.90. She also has the ninth most kills with 310 which leads the Lions.
Rebecca Janke remains consistent at the middle blocker position posting the seventh highest hitting percentage in the OVC with a .290. Of the people qualified for hitting percentage, she has the fifth most kills (271).
Jessie Seidel appears twice on the OVC Top Ten rankings as she is fifth in digs per set (4.79) and fourth in total digs (513). She also makes an appearance for service aces with 38 on the season. She averages 0.36 aces per set (9th in OVC). Allie Otten also ranks seventh in assists in the OVC with anaverage of 6.48 per set.
PlayerTo Watch
Addy McAleer had a bounce back weekend after posting a total of 28 kills including 20 last Friday. McAleer has 17 matches this season with double-digit kills with two of those matches going over 20 kills.
McAleer leads the team in kills in her first season with the Lions hitting 310. She has also posted 22 aces this season with 29.0 blocks. McAleer is also great defensively picking up 184digs along the way. She will go against her former team this week at SEMO.
