Ice luges are a brilliant way to get any party started! An ice luge or vodka luge is any ice sculpture with a channel running through it. A shot (alcoholic or non!) is then poured through the top of the sculpture and is chilled by the ice before it reaches the bottom of the sculpture, flowing out into your glass or straight into your mouth.
Ice luges make for fantastic centrepieces at parties or weddings, they’re a great talking point and are particularly popular at birthday celebrations. The cost of an ice luge varies depending on the number of ice blocks used to build it, the time it takes to complete and also the distance that it has to travel. All our luges are carved from hand, without the use of automated machinery. We’re always sure to work closely with you to produce the design you have in your mind.

What is a vodka ice luge?
A vodka ice luge is an ice sculpture specifically designed as a party centrepiece, to serve chilled shots to your guests. An ice luge can be carved to any design, but usually incorporates a slope which serves as a channel for the alcohol of any kind to be poured through. Plastic tubes and funnels are also used to aid drinking and hygiene.
How long will a vodka ice luge last?
Ice luges can last up to 8 hours, however, due to their transient nature, it is difficult to put an exact figure on this. The larger the ice luge, the longer it will last, but an ice luge can last longer if kept in a cool room. Pouring chilled alcohol down the luge can also help prevent premature melting. We always advise setting up vodka luges as late as possible so that they look sharp and work well until the end of the event.
Are vodka ice luges sanitary?
Ice luges are sanitary as long as the tubes and funnels that are used to transport the alcohol are cleaned before use. Drinkers can choose to simply pour the alcohol into shot glasses using the luge or can drink straight from the end of the luge. In the latter case, it is important to sanitise the luge after each drinker.
How do you drink a vodka ice luge?
You pour a shot of alcohol in the top of the ice sculpture- the liquid flows down through the ice sculpture – chilling on its way and flows out the bottom into your glass or straight into your mouth.
How does a vodka ice luge work?
Ice luges work by the means of placing a funnel or tubing system within an ice sculpture at such an angle that gravity will cause any liquid poured through to move from the top of the system to the bottom. Alcohol is poured in at the top of the luge, usually with the assistance of a funnel, and the drink is then dispensed at the bottom of the luge.
What can I pour through a vodka ice luge?
Any liquid can be poured through a vodka luge, however certain drinks are better suited to drinking from a luge than others. Chilled spirits with high alcohol content (such as vodka, gin, rum and whiskey) are the best drinks to pour through a vodka luge, however, soft drink variants can also be used.
How big are vodka ice luges?
Vodka ice luges can be as big as you want, it should be noted that larger sculptures will cost more than smaller ones. As an ice luge is usually bought as a centrepiece for a party, a typical size is around 1m tall x 50cm wide, this ensures that the design has a suitable impact and the alcohol has a reasonable distance to travel to the drinker’s mouth.
It is possible to find much smaller vodka luges on the internet (50cm tall x 25cm wide). These have almost no carved detail, they melt away extremely fast and have almost no impact on your event. These mini luges are more a gimmick than a centrepiece.
Who installs the ice luge and how is it cleaned up?
Our team of specialist ice sculptors install each piece. We display the sculptures on drip trays with bright LED strip lights to illuminate the sculpture to its full potential. Lighting adds 100% wow factor to an ice sculpture.
We leave an ice pick and simple instructions for the venue to easily pop the ice apart and place it outside to melt away over-night. You can keep the lights and tray. You will need to provide a suitable sturdy table (If you can sit on the table and it doesn’t bend its strong enough) with a plug socket or extension lead behind for us to plug your lights in. Where this is not possible, we also bring battery powered LED lights that we can use instead.
