GALVA – George E. Wilson, 95, of Galva, died at 7:05 p.m., Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday November 14 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva where military rites will be accorded by the Galva Fusiliers. Rev. Rebecca Gearhart will officiate. Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m., Sunday, November 13 at the funeral home. Cremation will be accorded following the services and private inurnment will be in Galva Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities or to Galva Freedom Fest.

George was born March 25, 1927 to Delbert and Ruby Wilson, on a farm in Decatur County, IA. He married Lilly M. Schmitt on July 4, 1948 in Berlin Germany. She preceded him in death in November of 2001. He later married Marilyn Goodrich Whaley on January 11, 2003 in Galva. Survivors include his wife of Galva, a son, Robert (Desireé Cornwall) Wilson of Florida, his daughter, Kristine (Eric) Anderson of Galva, step-children, Steve Whaley of Bloomington, IL, Wende (Kevin) Devlin of Rio and Becky Riley of Atkinson, his step-son-in-law, Tim Foley of Galva, a sister, Helen Glasgo of Aurora, grandchildren; Anthony (Elizabeth) Miller, Samantha Miller, Madison Wilson, and Jaxson Meier, eight step-grandchildren, two great grandsons, Huxley and Mason Haptonstall and six step-great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Jacob Garness, a brother, Donald, a sister, Bonnie Lynd and his step-daughter, Pam Foley.

George graduated from Galva High School in 1944 and attended technical schooling. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1945-48 having served in France, Belgium, and Berlin, Germany. George and Lilly returned to the United States and resided in California. While in California, George, worked at Folgers Coffee and Ghirardelli Chocolate. They then moved to Galva where he worked as a supervisor at Hyster Company and had owned and operated Wilson's Shell Service for 17 years. He served on the City of Galva Planning Commission from 2006 to the present. He was of the Methodist faith and was a member of the Galva American Legion Hagberg-Hamlin Post 45. He had attended the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities. He was a founding member of Hook and Bullet Conservation Club and enjoyed gardening, woodworking and mowing the lawn.
