Amaretto Sour Recipe – a classic co*cktail that is so easy to make an absolutely delicious! With just 4 ingredients it is so simple to make, it will become your go-to co*cktail!
Sometimes I feel like classic co*cktails are just taken for granted. You know that you like a Gin & Tonic, but don’t necessarily make it at home. For some reason a lot of people just reserve beer and wine for at home. Well it is time to change that!
An amaretto sour is a classic co*cktail that is sweet and make from an almond flavored liqueur; amaretto. The best part of making them at home is you control the sweetness. If you don’t like it super sweet, you can make it more tart.
What is Amaretto
It is a sweet Italianliqueurthat originated inSaronno,Italy. It was originally flavored with bitter almonds, but over time that has changed. Some brands now use peach stones, apricot stones or almonds. It is sweet and light enough you can drink it alone, or add to a mixed drink or even coffee.
Amaretto Sour Ingredients
Amaretto
Lemon Juice
Simple Syrup
Lemon-Lime Soda
Just 4 simple ingredients make up this drink. Amaretto is sweet on its own, so you can adjust the amount of simple syrup to your taste.
How to Make an Amaretto Sour
This recipe is so simple to make. You don’t have to use a co*cktail shaker for it if you don’t have one. You can easily just stir the ingredients together in a glass. But if you have one, break it out! I love how cold and crisp a co*cktail shaker makes a drink.
All you have to do is add the amaretto, lemon juice and simple syrup together and shake! Pour over ice and then top with a splash of lemon-lime soda. The traditional garnish is a slice of orange and a maraschino cherry, but honestly if you don’t have that you aren’t going to be missing anything. So don’t let that be the reason you don’t make this drink!
This co*cktail is easy to make for a crowd as well. Just mix the amaretto, simple syrup, and lemon juice together in a pitcher. Then when it is time to serve just add a splash of lemon-lime soda to each glass.
This is such a simple co*cktail to make and definitely worth investing in a bottle of amaretto for. You are going to be able to mix this up in just a minute any night of the week!

Luxardo Amaretto uses the pits of cherries, peaches, and apricots to replicate the flavors of toasted almond and marzipan. This is a particularly excellent option for making an amaretto sour, as the depth and sweetness pair perfectly with the lemon juice and egg white.
Mixing amaretto and coffee is perhaps the most classic and well-known way to enjoy the almond-flavored liqueur, short of sipping it straight. Adding a shot to your after-dinner cup of joe is a great way to drink your dessert without consuming hundreds of unnecessary calories.
Depending on the brand, it may be made from apricot kernels, bitter almonds, peach stones, or almonds, all of which are natural sources of the benzaldehyde that provides the almond-like flavour of the liqueur. It generally contains 21 to 28 percent alcohol by volume.
🥃 How strong is an amaretto sour? In the world of co*cktails, an Amaretto Sour is not very strong. Most amaretto brands are 42 proof, which means they contain 21% alcohol. By comparison, most liquors are 80 proof.
While optional, an egg white adds body, a nice mouthfeel, and a silky top, without a funky egg taste. In fact, I find that it cuts the sweetness back a bit, creating a more balanced drink.
This one's on the “List” I will admit, I have a list of “safe” co*cktails. These are options that – no matter what kind of bar you're in – you're probably going to get a delicious drink. Two on that list are the Whiskey Sour and the Amaretto Sour.
Sour mix is both sweet and sour, so if you need to make a swap, you'll want to make sure you add both so the taste will be comparable. Using equal parts lemon juice or lime juice and simple syrup or soda is the safest bet.
Sour mix (also known as sweet and sour mix) is a mixer that is yellow-green in color and is used in many co*cktails. It is made from approximately equal parts lemon and/or lime juice and simple syrup and shaken vigorously with ice.
A little sugar also goes a long way; a bar spoon amount will often be enough to pull a rogue bitter ingredient into line without making the co*cktail sweet. While not part of the taste triangle per se, salt can also help – a drop of saline solution knocks off the rough edges.
“Try pairing it with chocolate flavors, citrus, red and dark fruits, and spices like cinnamon, nutmeg or vanilla,” he says. The Macaulay Culkin co*cktail features a healthy one-ounce pour of amaretto along with a few dashes of chocolate bitters for depth.
You can drink amaretto straight by itself, or mix it with scotch, bourbon, rum, and other alcoholic drinks. Amaretto also mixes well with non-alcoholic drinks, like coffee, hot chocolate, and ginger beer. To drink amaretto straight, pour it over ice. Add a squeeze of lemon or lime for extra flavor.
The shelf life of a liqueur (e.g., schnapps, amaretto, and triple sec) is more temperamental. These spirits contain sugar and other ingredients that can spoil, some are more problematic than others. Generally, you'll want to discard open bottles after about 18 months.
An amaretto sour is a co*cktail using amaretto liqueur. It is a type of sour, a mixed drink made with a base spirit, citrus juice, and a sweetener. The drink is the most popular co*cktail use for amaretto.
Add amaretto, bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup and egg white to a shaker and dry-shake (no ice) for 15 seconds. Add ice and shake again until well-chilled. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
An amaretto sour shows that you re a responsible individual and that you have plans to drive yourself home after happy hour. After all, this co*cktail combines a mild liqueur along with a non-alcoholic mix. It's a safe bet, especially if you have to get up early the next morning.
